By the year 2100, Climate change, War, Famine, and economic collapse had left the earth scared and depleted of resources. The remnants of humanity began to explore space. Searching for a new planet and a second chance for biological life.
Leaving behind there old bodies they uploaded there minds into robotic spacecraft that could endure the long years between the stars. After many years in space, one party happened upon an earth sized moon orbiting a gas giant, In a Solar system some 125 light years from earth. This new world had many of the criteria required to support life and could easily be terraformed into a new home for humanity.
The Ship entered the system's asteroid belt and began to mine the minerals and produce the equipment It would need to Colonize the planet. It began to clone a species of algae to convert the planet's atmosphere to breathable oxygen, and sent probes to the outer solar system to collect Comets to be smashed into the planet, Providing it with large amounts of water necessary for life.
Once the planet was partly livable it began to clone Plants, animals and human colonists to populate the planet. After the Colonists were established. The ship refitted and refueled itself before leaving to find another world to seed with life. Ensuring that Humanity or its children would never go extinct.
Back on the planet the people established a new society. Not wanting to repeat the mistakes of there ancestors back on earth they created a Ridged social order based on science. Studding history they decided that the best way to run things would be to divide the people into a caste system in which everyone would be genetically and psychologically engineered to preform a Specific task.
Under the new order the people built a The City. An Arcology the size of Manhattan, a Self contained world for 10 million or more souls. In The City life ran smoothly but some people thought this new order was wrong. Feeling they had lost there humanity living in a closed world. They refused to participate in the caste system and were declared Pariahs and thrown out. Forced to live beneath in the old City.
Oppressed and neglected by the people of The City they degraded into barbarism as the old city turned to ruins. Filled with waste from The City above it became a breeding ground for a trillion species. Flesh mutated and concrete crumbled as the old city became a man made jungle. A cesspit where The City folk above threw there waste and discarded experiments.
It is now Colony Year 1725. 4561ad by the old earth calender. Can Man's children learn form the mistakes of the past or are they doomed to repeat them?
